Description
The Old School is a Grade II listed building constructed from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof. This single-storey structure features two main rooms and has two low single-storey wings that project to the west. On the east side, there are two early 19th-century 12-pane sash windows, each with cambered stone heads and slate sills. The north and south end walls are adorned with tall schoolroom windows from the late 19th century, arranged in triplets with cambered painted heads and slate sills. The west side features a central original window with a pointed head, intersecting glazing bars, and painted stone voussoirs. The low wing on the left includes a pair of casement windows at the west end, while the wing on the right has a west end bellcote and a triple casement window set in a painted stucco surround. Notably, two tall red brick stacks were removed from the main building in 1991.
The Old School and the adjacent Old School Cottage are situated within a large courtyard enclosed by a rubble stone wall. Access is provided by iron double gates to the south and a single gate to the west.
