Description

The Vicarage Stables are a mid-19th century coach house and stable constructed from brown squared rubble stone, with a slate roof, ridge vent and cement coping. The building is arranged as a two-storey, three-window range. A projecting gabled section sits at the centre, containing a broad arched carriage entry with double ledged doors. Above the carriage entry is a roundel, framed by a flush sandstone ashlar arch head and surround. To either side of the central section are stable doors, with windows positioned above them. These windows and doors are characterised by cambered heads, flush sandstone ashlar voussoirs and slate sills. The south end wall features a similar gable roundel to the central section, along with a ground-floor arched window incorporating a fanlight. The north end has a loft door with an arched head and a ground floor door. The rear elevation includes a door to the left, four small vent loops, a central door, and a window. Two rows of dove holes are situated above the centre door and loft window on each side. The stables were restored in 1992-93 by Cadw and are now used in association with nearby abbey ruins.
