Description

The Former Banqueting Tower, located about 300 meters southeast of Orielton Field Centre, is an early to mid 18th century belvedere tower that once housed a banqueting room. It is constructed of rubble stone, red brick, and features Bath stone dressings. The tower has a massive three-storey square plan in the early Georgian style. The ground floor is squat and roughcast, with broad camber-headed carriage arches on the north and south sides, which are adorned with cut stone voussoirs and a raised keystone.

The upper floors are made of red brick, accented with Bath stone alternating quoins. There are two red brick string courses with raised Bath stone angle blocks, and large window openings framed in rusticated surrounds with flat ashlar heads and raised keystones. The windows have stone sills, and there is a stone string course beneath a high brick parapet that features ashlar angle piers and moulded ashlar coping. The east side of the tower is windowless and covered in ivy, with a blank opening visible on the first floor. The north front is also obscured by ivy. There are signs of roughcast over the brickwork on the first floor of the east side, as well as indications of a low gabled building extending east from the east wall.

The tower is currently roofless and floorless, but it still retains remnants of fielded plaster panels and corner fireplaces.
