Description

The dovecote and attached courtyard ranges of outbuildings located east of West Orielton are notable for their exceptional size and quality. The dovecote is constructed from roughcast rubble stone and features a tall, broad structure topped with a low-pitched conical slate roof. Inside, it measures approximately 5 meters in width and is tiered from the floor to the eaves, containing brick dove-holes arranged in about 26 circular layers, with around 60 nests in each layer. There is one large window on the south wall and a door on the north side.

To the south and east of the dovecote, there is a two-storey range that runs westward, facing the yard. This range has an asbestos roof and includes a ridge stack towards the west end, where it connects to the main house. The west end features a pair of casement windows above a door, with another pair of casement windows to the left. Further left, there is a door and an unaligned window above it, followed by a door with a window on each side, and another door to the left. Above the left door and the right window, there are upper windows, leading to a door with a leading door above it. Finally, near the dovecote, there is a cambered arched cart-entry with a window above.

The range extending north from the dovecote is a single-storey structure with sloping eaves, featuring a window, a door, two additional windows, a large sliding door, and another window. The heads of the windows are painted brick.

To the north and west, a high rubble wall encloses the northern side of the yard, with brick piers at the center opening. There is a door with a brick head on the north side to the left, and lean-to buildings are situated on the courtyard side of the wall. Pig-sties are located to the left of the western lean-to.

The outer wall curves around at the northwest angle, enclosing a small yard and connecting to the northwest corner of a whitewashed stone single-storey outbuilding, which has doors on the west side and south end. There is a brick octagonal stack at the northern end, along with a garage and lean-to on the eastern wall towards the courtyard.
