Description

The war memorial is a white marble truncated short obelisk topped with a draped design. At the base, there is a carved relief featuring oak leaves and a broken cannon, which extends onto a coved plinth. The memorial is set on a square pedestal that rests on a coved plinth, which in turn sits on a square base. The front of the shaft has an inscription that reads, "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF MERLINS BRIDGE AND DISTRICT WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR," followed by eight names and the phrase, "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS." On the left side, the memorial also includes the dates "1939 - 1945," the words "WORLD WAR II," and three additional names.
