Description

Sodstone Manor is a two-storey building with a basement, featuring incised coursing on colourwashed plaster over rubble, and a plinth. It has a west-facing slate roof with central stacks that have flanking scrolls on both the front and rear elevations, along with grouped flues. The exterior includes a panelled blocking course and a plain entablature, with pilasters at the corners and a band at the first floor.

The front elevation has three windows, featuring cross windows with plain architraves and stone sills. This design is mirrored on the ground floor, flanking a central porch. The porch has panels and scrolls on a moulded cornice, a round arched doorway with a keystone, pilasters, sunk panels, and narrow side windows. The entrance includes a half-glazed panelled door with panelled reveals that open to form storm doors.

To the left end elevation, there are five windows facing the garden, while the right end elevation has four windows and a panelled staff door. The area includes two basement windows below. An attached lane is located to the left of the rear elevation, which has three first-floor windows offset to the left and a single ground-floor window.

The building is surrounded by a balustraded forecourt on all sides except the right end.

Inside, there is a mahogany staircase leading to the entrance hall, featuring barley twist balusters grouped to form newels, along with finials and pendants. The interior also includes panelled reveals and doors, and cornices in the drawing and dining rooms. The servants' hall has back stairs leading to the former kitchen in the basement, which contains vaulted storerooms and flagstone flooring.
