Description

Rutland House is a three-storey gentry house with a basement, featuring a five-window front and a roughcast exterior. The slate roof has rendered flanking stacks and overhanging eaves supported by paired brackets, along with a panelled eaves band. The top storey includes square 6-pane hornless sash windows, while the other windows are 12-pane hornless sashes. The central entrance boasts a Doric doorcase with pilasters, an entablature adorned with triglyphs, and a triangular pediment with modillions, all accessed by a flight of steps leading to part-glazed double panelled doors.

The forecourt is enclosed by a wall and railings, featuring a dwarf stone wall with ashlar coping, railings with arrowhead finials, and stone gate piers with capping, along with iron gates. To the left, there is a simple gateway leading to the basement entrance. The rear garden includes brick terracing.

The building has been converted into flats, with a lobby that features a cornice, dado, and panelled doors. There is a staircase, possibly from the early 18th century, with turned balusters. The interior retains much period detail, including cornices, contemporary doorcases, and panelled doors, as well as an Adamesque fireplace and a fireplace in the former kitchen at the rear.
