Description
The County House is a three-storey, three-bay brick house, notable for its brick bands at the second and first floor levels and a modillion eaves cornice. It has a slate roof with flanking brick stacks. The windows feature plain reveals, with square 6-pane sash windows on the second floor. The first floor has a tripartite sash window in each end bay and a single 12-pane sash window in the centre. On the ground floor, there are Venetian sash windows with small-pane glazing in each end bay, and in the centre, a round-headed doorcase with a pediment supported by finely moulded consoles, frieze blocks with paterae, panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door topped with a semi-circular fanlight featuring radiating tracery. The house has a tall gabled rear wing that is stuccoed.
Inside, the house boasts an exceptionally fine interior with lugged chimney pieces, dados, skirtings, and a heavy cornice. The window casings to the shutters are fluted Corinthian columns. The first floor features Regency chimney pieces and cornices, along with panelled doors. A fine staircase with a scroll newel adds to the interior's elegance.
