Description
Fishguard Fort is a gun-battery and storehouse that was originally designed in an almost fan-shaped plan, featuring a curving battery above a rock-cut ditch, which is partly enclosed by rubble stone walls. The remains of the south-east wall include a square-headed entry flanked by stone voussoirs, with those on the inside set higher. A significant portion of the south wall is still intact, returning at the western end to what appears to be a remnant of a fireplace.
The storehouse is constructed of rubble stone and has a low roof made of stepped cemented stones. It features a door with a timber lintel in the end wall. Inside, the storehouse has a brick vaulted roof and contains two chambers that are divided by a stone wall, with a timber lintel above the door.
