Description
The Hermitage at Ffald y Brenin Christian Retreat Centre is a single-storey building with a loft, originally a mill, constructed from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof that features a mix of colours. It has a stone chimney on the left side and a skylight on the rear slope. The openings are set under brick arches, with trapezoidal heads on the windows and doors, which also have slate sills. To the right, there is a half-glazed boarded door, flanked by two unequal windows on the left. The left gable end has an additional window, positioned slightly to the right, while the right gable end, where the ground rises sharply, includes an attic window and a small opening at ground level.
Inside, the walls and ceiling are white plastered. On the ground floor, there is an inserted fireplace with a stone surround made of unquarried stone, left unplastered, and featuring a slate hearth slab. A straight staircase leads to a 'croglofft'-type sleeping space.
