Description

Kemendine is a house that forms the left half of a symmetrical pair with Gwynne House. It is built in painted stucco that is lined to resemble ashlar, featuring a parapet and a hipped slate roof with brick stacks on either side. The building stands three storeys high with a basement and has a double-fronted design that includes paired centre doors. Each house has one 16-pane sash window on the first and second floors, with the first-floor windows adorned with early 19th-century Gothic iron guards. The second-floor window of Kemendine has a later plate glass sash. On the ground floor, there are narrower 12-pane sash windows flanking the paired centre doorways, which are accessed by a single flight of slate steps.

The entrance features a good open-pedimented double doorcase supported by three thin columns, with fielded panelled reveals and fielded panelled doors. Above the doors are semi-circular fanlights with fine metal tracery. The basements have sash windows, with a 4-pane window for Kemendine and a 12-pane window for Gwynne House.

The area railings, dating from the early 19th century, are made of wrought iron and feature scrolls and standards topped with lotus-and-ball finials. Inside, the front ground floor room retains a cornice similar to that of Gwynne House.
