Description
Abertawe House, which includes a smaller back cottage, is a Grade II listed villa built in a mildly gothic style. The main house faces the street and is connected to the back cottage by a length of rubble wall topped with quartzite copings. The villa is two storeys high with attics and has three bays. Its main elevation features scribed render with rusticated quoins, while the rear wall and gable ends are exposed rubble. The slate roof is adorned with cresting and finials, and there are yellow brick stacks at the gable ends.
The main elevation has a narrow central bay with a doorway framed by an architrave that includes decorative panels, which appear to incorporate coal or coke. This doorway is flanked by full-height canted bays that contain 4-pane sash windows beneath broad dormer gables. Above the doorway, there is a central 4-pane sash window with a similar decorated architrave, as well as tall attic windows that also feature decorated architraves. The wide gables are enhanced with decorated barge-boards, and the cast iron rainwater goods display embossed mask details.
The two-storey cottage at the rear is constructed of rubble with brick heads and quoins around its 4-pane sash windows. It has a slate roof with a brick stack on the left-hand gable. The rear elevation primarily consists of 4-pane sash windows, including a stair window located at the center.
