Description
Victoria Lodge is an early to mid 19th century house constructed from squared and banded brown stone, topped with a slate roof and featuring stone end wall stacks. This two-storey, double-fronted building has two large 12-pane sash windows above, which are set beneath cambered stone voussoirs and slate sills. Below, there is a central door flanked by canted bay windows. The exterior includes an applied slate plinth, slate paving in front, and patterned white and grey cobbles at the street edge.
The canted bays are broad, featuring a 4-16-4 pane configuration with cornices, wide slate sills, and rendered bases. The central door and doorcase are of particularly high quality, consisting of a six-panel door beneath a plain fanlight, with four fielded panels and two flush panels. Similar panelling is found in the reveals and on the panelled arch soffit, with a slate step leading up to the entrance.
An elaborate rustic classical open pedimental porch is supported by two thin columns with pilaster responds. Between the capitals and the pediment are ornately carved blocks featuring a classical leaf motif below and a flower or husk motif above. The pediment itself is open, adorned with modillion brackets within and fretted bargeboards at the outer edges.
