Description
Ivy House, also known as The Cnapan Restaurant, is an early 19th-century substantial house featuring colourwashed roughcast and a slate roof with stone stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, originally comprising a three-window range that was extended by one bay to the west in the late 19th or early 20th century. The original section includes stone stacks, 12-pane hornless sash windows with slate sills and raised stucco labels. The central front door is round arched, featuring a six-panel door with four fielded panels, matching panelled reveals, a traceried fanlight, and a panelled arch soffit. The door frame has thin pilasters with incised decoration and an open pedimental timber porch supported by two columns on slate bases, with octagonal necks and caps, and a plain low-pitched roof.
The west end addition is constructed of whitewashed rubble stone, with a whitewashed end stack beneath a continuous roof. This section features a two-storey canted bay with plate glass mid-transom windows, slim column shafts, a cornice, and a flat roof, with roughcast panels between the floors. A gabled eaves dormer contains a 6-pane sash window.
The rear wall of the main house is made of rubble stone, featuring a central 12-pane stair light and a 12-pane sash window on either side at the first floor, along with a ground floor window and two doors. The rear of the added section has brick window heads.
The front garden is enclosed by a painted rendered retaining wall topped with spearhead rails and urns on stanchions, with a curved southeast angle. Slate steps lead up to the front door.
