Description

The Milanese House, which includes Crackwell House at the rear, is a mid-19th century commercial building with flats. It features a painted stucco facade that is four stories high and has three bays. The facade is flanked by thin Ionic pilasters that extend from the first floor up to a full moulded cornice and parapet. There are red brick end stacks and three gabled 20th-century windows. The building has a pair of three-story oriel windows and plain center windows, all fitted with sashes that have horizontal glazing bars. In 1977, the three center windows were enhanced with heavy architraves and cornices, with the architraves shouldered to the first and second floors and a pediment above the first floor.

At the rear, on Crackwell Street, is Crackwell House, which is finished in unpainted render and features a parapet. This structure is also four stories tall and has one bay with sashes that only have horizontal bars. It includes a single sash window on the third floor and a canted two-story oriel window with sashes below it, along with a ground floor that has a painted stucco front. There is a recessed door accessed by steps to the left, angled towards Derham Lodge, and a 20th-century shop window. The shop window is flanked by stucco pilasters and has a thin entablature above, which breaks forward over the pilasters. The door has two long wooden panels and an overlight. The right side wall features a 12-pane sash window on the third and second floors.

Inside, there is a fine staircase that rises through a narrow apsidally-ended well.
