Description
No 4 Lansdowne Cottages is part of a terrace of five small houses built in a formal design along a curve. Each house has a flat front, but Nos 2 and the entrance bay to Nos 4 and 5 are designed as a three-bay pair. The street-facing elevations are painted stucco, featuring one window per cottage with a side entrance. The buildings are two storeys plus a basement, with a deep first-floor sill band, a moulded cornice supported by small modillion brackets, and a heavy panelled parapet with a moulded top. The two projecting sections have an additional blocking course above the top cornice. The roofs are covered with 20th-century concrete tiles.
Each house has sixteen-pane hornless sash windows and flat-headed doorways with late 20th-century six-panel doors and overlights. The rear of the cottages features a 12-pane sash window on the first floor and a small four-pane dormer above, along with various ground floor lean-to additions. Nos 4 and 5 form a pair with three bays, having doorways in the slightly projected middle bay. Their parapet lacks panels, and there are sash windows on each floor in the outer bays, with a blank first-floor window in the centre bay above the two doorways, which also have six-panelled doors and three-pane overlights. Grilles beneath the ground floor windows indicate basements. The rear of the cottages is canted from the back of Nos 1-3 and features longer first-floor sashes.
