Description

No 4 Rock Houses, also known as Tide's Reach, is a terraced house built with painted stucco. It has four storeys and a basement, featuring one window bay and a doorway. There is a band above the ground floor, an entablature with a pulvinated frieze, and a dentil course on the cornice and parapet. The house has hornless sash windows: a 9-pane window in a plain surround on the third floor; a 12-pane window with a shouldered surround, thin cornice, and sill brackets on the second floor; a 12-pane window with a shouldered surround, full pulvinated frieze, cornice, and larger sill brackets on the first floor; and a plain 12-pane sash window on the ground floor.

Modern tiled steps lead up to an arched doorway on the right, which is framed by a timber doorcase with thin fluted columns and an open pediment with dentils, raised on entablature blocks. The doorway has fielded panelled reveals and soffit, an 8-panelled door (with six fielded panels and two flush panels), and a plain fanlight.

The area railings feature spearheaded finials and a twisted arch tie to the house, flanking the steps to the left of the door, while the section to the right of the door is missing. There are concrete steps leading to the basement, which includes a 20th-century hornless 12-pane sash window and a glass 20th-century door below an arched bridge. The front facing the sea has unpainted cement with 20th-century glazing, a two-storey bay window, and two windows on each of the upper floors, topped with a parapet.
