Description
The cowshed at Gelli is a 19th-century building constructed from whitewashed rubble stone with a slate roof, featuring a single long range that slopes down from north to south. The west side includes, from left to right, a door, a ventilation loop, two windows, and a centrally located door. To the right, there is one window in a blocked door. The building has timber lintels throughout. The north end features one window in a former loading door, while the south end is an addition with two large coach entries in the gable end, which have cambered timber lintels and squared stone centre and angle piers. There is a small lean-to on the east side, which has a south door with stone voussoirs, along with a blocked door and another door in the main east wall.
Inside, the cowshed has three heavy oak roof trusses with scarfed feet and curved pegged collars, while other areas feature 19th-century pine collar trusses. There are two oak beams and the stubs of a third. In the coach-house area, there is a dividing stone wall, and the left side of the coach-house has a three-sided plaster ceiling, which is an unusual feature.
