Description
The Lewis Edwards Memorial, located outside the Penllwyn Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, is a Grade II listed structure featuring a bronze bust on a granite pedestal. The bust is depicted in half-length, cloaked, and holding a book. The pedestal consists of a square plinth, with a shaft that tapers on three sides while the back remains vertical. The sides flare out beneath a moulded capital, with the centre front moulding projecting forward. The pedestal is inscribed in Welsh, honoring the memory of the Reverend Lewis Edwards, M.A., D.D., founder and first president of the Bala College from 1837 to 1887, and a notable educator and minister. He was born in Phwllcenawon Penllwyn on October 27, 1809, and passed away in Bala on August 19, 1887. Surrounding the memorial is a kerb with seven cast-iron standards that support iron chains and a horizontal bar.
