Description
The Edwards Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 14 metres north of the north porch of the Church of St George. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and is made of sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a moulded plinth, sunken side panels with wide shallow-incised borders, and flanking fluted pilaster strips. It has raised end panels, shaped quarter corner balusters, a chevron-carved frieze, and a chamfered top. The memorial commemorates Richard Edwards, who died in 1844, and Elizabeth Edwards, who died in 1850. It is a late but notable example of a type commonly found in this area, similar to the Brown memorial located approximately 18 metres to the north of the north porch and the Gwilliam memorial.
