Description

Yr Ysgoldy Fach is a former schoolroom built from rubble stone, featuring a steep slate roof with close eaves and a small rendered bellcote on the right gable. The building has a symmetrical single-storey facade with four bays, highlighted by a tall central chimney that has a shouldered chimney breast and a tall square stone stack, which is chamfered in at the eaves level and topped with slate capping. On either side of the chimney, there are two large timber six-light mullion and transom windows with a mid-transom and cast-iron lattice glazing, slate sills, and heavy slate lintels.

At each end of the building, there are lower gabled porches that project out, featuring timber bargeboards and Tudor-arched doorways with dressed stone voussoirs. The right-hand porch includes a 20th-century wrought iron gate and a blocked arch on the rear wall, while the left-hand porch provides wheelchair access. The left and right end walls also have single windows similar to those on the front. There is a 20th-century rear extension.

Inside, the building is a single cell open to the ridge and originally included a gallery at the right end, with visible marks of former posts. The roof features a five-bay open collar-truss design. The interior has a wooden floor, white painted plaster walls, and a centrally blocked fireplace. There is a boarded gable opening in the end gable, a small central window on the rear wall, a hatch leading into a modern kitchen, and a door to the toilets, all of which date from the 20th century.
