Description

The Commercial Inn is a public house dating from around 1900, originally incorporating a village shop to the right. The front is three bays, set slightly to the right, with 16-pane hornless sash windows. A 20th-century central door and overlight are present, along with a 20th-century window on the left-hand side. A former village shop is attached to the right. The roof is slate, with projecting eaves and bargeboards, and the gable ends have rubble chimney stacks, including those on the rear wing.

The two-bay rear wing rises to three storeys due to the sloping ground. It features 16-pane hornless sashes to the upper floors and a single sash to the ground floor on the left. A lean-to porch in the angle with the main part of the building provides access via a boarded door.

Inside, the building has a cross passage with a dog-leg stick baluster staircase, the lower flight of which is enclosed. A turned newel post with a ball finial is present on the ground floor. A cellar lies beneath the room on the right, and a rear basement is accessible via a stone staircase from the passage.
