Description
The Slipway Building is a Grade II listed rubble stone warehouse, built into a cliff with four storeys accessible from the slipway, while the ground level has a loft entry from the northwest. It features a slate roof and a brick stack at the northwest end.
The front wall has two wide two-storey openings, which are mostly boarded up, with timber lintels between the floors and above the first floor. In 1979, the ground floor on the right had boarded windows and a door, while the left side featured a ledged door between the windows. Above, there was 5-light 20th-century glazing over horizontal boarding. The second floor has five cambered-headed windows with brick heads and slate sills; the windows on the right are slightly longer than the three on the left. The 12-pane sashes have been renewed. The top floor, located under the eaves, has three rectangular windows with 20th-century glazing that replaced the small-paned glazing still present in 1979.
On the southeast end wall, there are stone steps leading up to a door on the first floor. The rear wall has a door leading to the second floor, while the northwest end has a door with a timber lintel leading to the third floor.
The main front displays straight joints that extend higher than the existing two-storey openings, indicating significant modifications. It is possible that the building was heightened, as the upper floors do not appear in a late 19th-century photograph of the slipway.
