Description

The National Westminster Bank is a three-storey and attic building featuring ashlar elevations in a variety of classical styles, with a polished granite plinth. The north elevation has three windows, while the Baker Street side has a four-window and a two-window arrangement, with one window on the splayed corner. The steep slate roof includes flat-roofed dormers and truncated stone chimney stacks. A modillion cornice and a balustraded parapet are present, with a blind corner at the base of a prominent open-pedimented dormer. This dormer is adorned with volute scrolls, a shield featuring foliage ornament inscribed 'NPB', and pilasters flanking a segmental-headed sash window with lugged architraves.

The building has sash windows with cills on the first and second floors, and lugged architraves on the second floor. The first floor features Gibbs surround derived architraves, mostly with raised arched hoods and tall keystones on the left end of the Baker Street front, where the penultimate bay, containing paired windows, is set back. There are panelled double doors at the corner, positioned under a bracketed arched hood, with cornices above grouped cross frame windows that have ovolo moulded mullions, although there is a modern fascia. Arched hoods also cover openings at the left end of the Baker Street front, including a panelled door entrance. A modern four-storey extension to the right is not of special interest.
