Description
The Head Post Office is a three-storey building with a three-window brick front, featuring terracotta window dressings, wide-bracket eaves, and red brick chimney stacks. The first and second floors have paired sash windows that are linked by panels with arabesque detailing, and there are egg and dart cornices on the first floor. A notable feature of the building is the tesselated fascia on the ground floor that reads "E VII R POST OFFICE 1901," accompanied by an egg and dart cornice and fluted fascia ends. The entrance, which has small pane glazing above a panelled door, is offset to the left and flanked by channelled pilasters, with a modern window nearby. To the right of the entrance, there is a clock set within a Baroque broken pedimented frame. Additionally, terracotta brick ventilator panels are present at the plinth level.
