Description

The Church of St David is a Grade II listed building constructed from rubble stone with a slate roof. It features a west tower, nave, and chancel that are all covered by a single roof, with the south side rendered. The tower, likely built in the 15th century, is square and slightly battered, supported by beach-stone corbels and topped with an embattled parapet. The belfry has simple slot openings, and the west door has a cambered head made of stone voussoirs. A medieval canted piece of stonework connects the north side of the tower to the nave's north wall and contains stairs leading from the nave to the tower. The remainder of the building is plain and is dated 1860 on a plaque located on the south side of the tower. The windows are plain lancets with stone voussoirs and feature 1931 leaded glazing, with two on each side of the nave and one window and door on the south side of the chancel, the door having a pointed overlight from 1931. The east end has a broad pointed window, and there is one window on the north side of the chancel. The east gable coping was also added in 1931, indicating that the roof was raised.

Inside, the tower has a pointed stone vault, while the walls are plain plastered. The chancel arch is plain and pointed, set one bay back from the chancel indent. There is a door to the tower stair raised on the north side of the west end. The roof trusses are thin and were installed in 1931. A small round font from 1888 is present, along with an east window from 1948, signed by G.E.R. Smith. There are several plain marble plaques commemorating Rev D. Jones (died 1801), Jane Jones of Tyglyn (died 1787), and Henry Jones of Tyglyn (died 1794). In the porch, three small carved stones can be found: one patterned, one with a running scroll on the edge, and a third that is humped and ribbed.
