Description
Alicia is a later 19th century village house, possibly built by a returning sea-captain, with a name reputedly derived from a boat. The building features whitewashed stucco with a slate hipped roof, adorned with crested ridge tiles and stone end stacks. It has a basement and two storeys, presenting a three-window range. The windows are 12-pane sashes, with narrower outer panes, and there is a 3-panel door topped with a radiating-bar fanlight. The house has raised stucco quoins and surrounds with keystones, and an arched hoodmould over the door. The end walls and rear are constructed of rubble stone, with the rear section rising to three storeys.
The front garden is enclosed by iron railings with fleur-de-lys heads, set on a low rubble wall. Alicia is noted for its special character and occupies a very prominent position in the centre of Aberarth, close to Pont Aberarth, making it a well-preserved example of a mid to late 19th century former sea-captain's house.
