Description

The Old Post Office is a Grade II listed building that has been converted into a single property. It is constructed from whitewashed rubble stone and features slate roofs with two ridge stacks. The building is two storeys high and has an L-shaped plan, with a short lofted wing that was once a bakery, projecting forward to the road edge at the eastern end. The main range has four windows, while the wing has a one-window return, and all appear to be from the same period.

The wing has an unpainted gable end with loading doors and an iron pulley wheel above. The return features a 12-pane sash window above double doors that lead to the former bakery. The main range includes the former Post Office on the left, which has a 12-pane sash window over a double-fronted shop with central double doors and an overlight situated between two-pane shop windows. The doorcase and outer window jambs are made of timber and feature brackets supporting an overall cornice. A King George VI letter box is incorporated into one of the windows.

To the right of the main entrance, there is a three-window range between the stacks, which has similar 12-pane sashes and a door located between the ground floor windows. This door is a two-panel design with an overlight. The spacing of the windows to the right of the door is wider. All windows have distinctive moulded timber fronts to their sills. At the western end, there is a late 19th-century addition made of unpainted rubble stone, featuring a two-window range with late glass sashes.

The property is set back from the road with a terraced forecourt, which includes a rubble retaining wall and stone steps leading up to the entrance.
