Description
Court Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed house that features a two-storey main range with a later service range at the rear. Constructed of rubble stone, the building is currently roofless but still has square rubble stacks with moulded caps. The main range faces south and consists of six bays, with a projecting two-storey bay to the right of the center, which extends on a corbel table. To the left, there are three bays, two of which have later tall windows dating from around 1700. To the right, there is a two-window range with stone mullioned windows. The right gable end has an external stack with paired diagonal chimneys.
At the rear, connected at right angles to the right, is a short wing that features stone steps leading to a first-floor doorway and a three-light window with sunk chamfered mullions. Beyond this wing, parallel to the main range, is the rear service wing, which was added during the early 17th century modernization. This wing includes a timber three-light mullioned window on the lower storey and a corbelled stack on the first floor. The rear service wing forms an open courtyard that is accessed from the west.
As of an inspection in 2011, the building is entirely roofless and floorless but retains a lateral chimney in the north wall of the former ground-floor hall, along with a fireplace in the hall above. The buffet, or built-in display cupboard, created during the alterations around 1700, remains in the cross wall of the inner room of the hall.
