Description

The War Memorial is made of grey granite and is a smaller version of the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London. It features two wide granite steps leading up to a low two-stage plinth. The upper stage has the years '1914-1918' in raised numerals, positioned beneath a high base that displays bronze name plaques and the inscription 'The Glorious Dead' above. There is a set-back stage above this, adorned with a laurel wreath in relief, similar to the design of the Cenotaph. The memorial has three receding small steps leading to the top 'altar', which has rebated corners, a shallow ridged cap, and an incised rosette on the front.

Surrounding the memorial is a low chain link fence supported by cast iron spearhead uprights.
