Description

44 and 46-47 Pendre is a terrace of two pairs of large, three-storey, two-window houses built in the 18th century as a single block. The building is constructed of brown sandstone, banded with blue lias, and has a slate roof with a matching stone stack at the south end. The north end stack was rebuilt in brick. Each pair has a four-window front with closely spaced sash windows. These windows feature cambered, painted brick arches and painted slate sills; the upper windows are six-pane sashes, and the first-floor windows are twelve-pane sashes. Originally, the ground floor had paired central doors with lozenge patterned overlights, decorated piers, and paired cornices supported by scrolled brackets.

At numbers 44 and 45, half of the original doorcase and both overlights remain. A 20th-century projecting shop window is present to the right, and a late 19th or early 20th-century shop window is on the left, projecting with canted sides and a fascia extending over the door.

Numbers 46 and 47 retain only the central pier with incised decoration, which supports a large console bracket for a fascia connecting two late 19th-century projecting shop windows. The left shop window spans the entire two-window range, while the right shop window has a recessed door. Both shop windows feature canted sides, plate glass, an overall fascia, and a cornice.
