Description

18 Pendre is a two-storey building with an attic, featuring painted roughcast elevations and a slate roof. It has plain timber eaves and bargeboards, with a broad rubble chimney stack on the left gable that has been largely rebuilt in brick. The rear wing includes a brick ridge chimney positioned to the left of center. The main front, which faces Pendre, consists of two bays. The ground floor has a timber-painted shopfront with a doorway on the left and a wide window on the right, both flanked by pilasters that end in paired brackets, topped with a moulded cornice. The shop window has two large lights and a moulded central glazing bar. The first floor features c1900 two-pane sash windows set in narrow 18th-century openings, offset to the right, along with a broad central attic gable that has a similar sash. The gable end includes a two-pane sash window on each floor to the left.

The two-storey rear wing is slightly stepped forward and has a four-panelled door with a plain overlight; above it is a two-pane sash window. The south elevation of the rear wing has three bays, with a boarded door to the left that has a plain overlight. To the right is an off-centre wide two-light window with six-over-one sashes, and a narrow four-over-one sash window. The first floor has an off-centre window of two lights with six-over-one sashes. To the left of the wing is a small single-storey outbuilding, also slightly stepped forward, featuring a boarded shutter on its window.

Inside, the front block retains two 18th-century roof trusses, although the rest of the roof structure dates from around 1900. The shop area has two wooden columns from early 20th-century remodelling. The rear ground floor room of the front block includes a fireplace and a wooden stair, while the front block has some broad-boarded doors. The rear of the building, dating from around 1900, features contemporary doors and fireplaces.
