Description
47 Pendre is a pair of large, three-storey, two-window houses built as a single terrace in the 19th century. They are constructed from brown sandstone banded in blue lias, topped with a slate roof and a matching stone stack at the south end. The north end stack has been rebuilt in brick. Each pair features a four-window arrangement of closely spaced sash windows, which have cambered painted voussoirs and painted slate sills. The upper windows have six panes, while the first-floor windows have twelve panes. Originally, the ground floor had paired central doors with lozenge-patterned overlights, incised decoration on the piers, and paired cornices supported by scrolled brackets.
Numbers 44 and 45 retain half of the original doorcase and both overlights, along with a 20th-century projecting shop window to the right and a late 19th or early 20th-century shop window to the left, which projects with canted sides and has a fascia extending over the door.
Numbers 46 and 47 have only the central pier with incised decoration, which supports a large console bracket for the fascia that connects two late 19th-century projecting shop windows. The left shop window spans the entire two-window range, while the right features a recessed door. Both shop windows have canted sides and plate glass, with an overall fascia and cornice.
