Description
Talsarn Smithy is a single-storey, rectangular building constructed from squared rubble stone, topped with an asbestos sheet hipped roof. The front features two small windows on the left and in the center, each with stone voussoirs and pairs of casement windows, one of which is glazed while the other is shuttered. To the right, there is a full-height broad opening fitted with 20th-century metal doors. A small stone stack is located on the rear wall, and there is a 20th-century asbestos-clad lean-to on the northern end. The southern end has rubble stone with stone angle and center piers, indicating an infilled two-bay opening.
Inside, the building consists of two rooms, with the southern end divided off by a rubble wall. The main northern part serves as the smithy, featuring a double hearth against the rear walls, which originally had two sets of bellows; the left set has been removed, but a curved indent in the wall to the north marks its previous position. There is an unusual cylindrical bellows to the right, along with an additional hearth on the southern wall that has bellows in the southeast corner. The roof is smoke blackened and features a collar-truss design with bolted collars.
