Description
Cob Cottage, originally called Troedrhiwfallen, is a building located in the village centre. It features whitewashed elevations, with the lower part made of shaley rubble and the upper half primarily constructed of cob, with some rubble patching. The roof is made of corrugated iron, which conceals thatch underneath, and there are boarded projecting eaves. A small brick chimney stack is positioned on the left gable.
The cottage has three bays and includes a loft that does not have windows. There is a boarded door inserted to the right of centre, topped with a timber lintel. To the right, there is a six-pane horned sash window with a lintel and slate sill, and a similar sash window is located towards the left end, which has replaced the original entry. This entry was of the lobby-type, which is unusual in southwest Wales. The left end of the building shows signs of collapse in the cob parts, while the right gable has overlapping corrugated iron barges and evidence of an attached building, indicated by putlogs in the wall and footings. The rear of the cottage is blank.
Although not inspected, it is evident from the slight collapse at the left end that the original trusses remain intact, along with the thatch. At the time of inspection in January 1996, the cottage was in deteriorating condition.
