Description
Capel Troedyrhiw is an Independent chapel built in 1861, featuring a rubble construction and a slate roof with bracketed eaves and barges. The chapel has a four-bay lateral facade, highlighted by two tall central round-arched 18/12 sash windows with dressed stone voussoirs and slate sills. On either side of the central windows, there are round-arched doorways, also with dressed stone voussoirs. The doors consist of two long raised and fielded panels, topped by elongated overlights that include a rectangular 4-light portion below a radiating 5-light fan. A tablet inscribed with "Troedyrhiw. Addold'yr Annibynwyr yr hwn a adeiladwyd yn y flwyddyn 1861" is located between the window heads. The right end of the building is constructed of rubble, while the left end is rendered. The rear is roughcast and features two tall 24-pane hornless sashes with slate sills and cambered heads.
Inside, the chapel retains its original box-type pews arranged in three ranks, which are steeply raked on a single gradient. The pews have a grained finish and panelled backs, with a prominent Big Seat that has a high panelled enclosure and angled corners. A later, simple pine pulpit is present, and the ceiling is coved along the long sides, with a decorative scalloped timber coving at the junction between the wall and ceiling, complemented by turned corner pendants.
