Description
Tre-berfedd is a Grade II* listed building featuring colourwashed rubble construction, with some cob visible above the upper front windows. The roof is covered with corrugated iron over thatch, and it has wide boarded eaves. The building has low rubble gable chimney stacks, which are thicker on the right side. The front of the house has three bays, offset to the left, with small upper single-light 4-pane casement windows that have timber lintels. The ground floor features later 19th-century 4-pane horned sash windows with cambered stone voussoired heads and stone sills. The central planked door includes a small light and has a cambered head, with a plaque above it reading "D. DAVIES 1802."
To the right, there is a single-storey, 2-bay kitchen wing from the mid to late 19th century, which projects forward and is constructed similarly to the main house. It is accessed from the front courtyard and has a two-light 4-pane casement window to the left, a boarded central door, and flat stone voussoired heads. The kitchen wing has a slate roof and a brick/rubble gable stack.
The right end of the house features a stepped plinth and a ground floor 4-pane casement window. The kitchen wing is stepped forward and has a two-light 4-pane casement with a cambered stone voussoired head and stone sill. The lower part of the northeast corner is bullnosed to accommodate the access road. The left end has corrugated sheets overlapping the gable, and there is an upper four-pane horned sash window with a lintel. At the rear, there is a mid to late 19th-century rubble outshut that does not fully extend to the north end of the house, featuring a two-light 4-pane casement in the middle with a cambered stone voussoired head and stone sill, along with an inserted window to the right. The north return elevation has a casement similar to the rear and a loft window above with a boarded shutter.
Although not inspected, the thatch is said to survive (ceiled in), and the roof timbers are visible. The large fireplace on the north side appears to have been altered.
