Description
The barn at Penlan-hafodwen, also known as Penlan-capel, is constructed of very finely laid thin rubble with cob under the eaves, featuring bullnosed corners at the eastern ends. It has a corrugated-iron roof that conceals thatch, with projecting eaves and overlapping corrugated-iron barges. There is a doorway to the left of the center, which has a timber lintel and a boarded door that retains a simple cut-out hatch for serving cawl. The rear has a corresponding boarded door, while the right end is blank. The left end shows traces of former attached buildings.
Inside, the barn has a complete roof structure made up of four pairs of scarfed crucks, paired purlins, and rough collars, with scantling under the thatch and visible thatch itself.
