Description
The War Memorial is a structure approximately 6 meters high, made of rough-hewn grey stone blocks. It has a square base consisting of three steps leading up to the main central monument, which measures about 1.2 meters square in plan and stands around 2 meters high. This section features a slightly projecting top stone course, above which massive blocks form a dome over a central pillar made of two blocks, topped with a stone cross. The pillar is roughly 0.5 meters square and about 3 meters high, including the cross.
On the northeast side of the main monument, there are two plaques. The original slate plaque honors those who died in the First World War. Below it is a smaller plaque that notes damage to the memorial caused by a 'thunderbolt' on March 21st, 1983, and its subsequent re-erection through public subscription in 1984. A third plaque, which commemorates the dead of the Second World War, is located beneath these on the top two steps of the northeast side.
