Description
The Hay & Cusop War Memorial is a freestone structure designed in the style of a medieval churchyard cross. It features a tapering octagonal shaft topped with a floriated cross, all resting on a tall square base. Bronze plaques attached to the base list the names of those who died in the First World War from 1914 to 1918. The memorial is set on a stepped freestone plinth, with the lower step made of snecked stonework, likely added when the memorial was relocated to its current site. It is enclosed by a paved area that has rubble-stone retaining walls supporting the higher ground of the castle grounds. At the front, there are end piers topped with ball finials. Additionally, brass plaques on the rear wall commemorate those who died in the Second World War from 1939 to 1946.
