Description
T.A. & M. Hughes, Newsagent is a three-storey building with a six-window rendered front, featuring alternate bay windows on the upper floors. The building has a slate roof that steps down over a slightly set back bay above the carriage entry, with bracket and dentil eaves. The ground floor has rusticated and carved quoins. The splayed bays at the ends and center each have tall hipped roofs, with the left one retaining its ridge cresting. Number 3 retains its original four-pane sash glazing, while Number 5 has been replaced with modern top-hung casements. Architectural details include a first-floor cill band, a dentil cornice above the bay of Number 3, and second-floor windows flanking the central bay that have panelled pilasters. The windows below feature heavy foliage carved surrounds with a classical roundel under the cornice. The right-hand bay drops below the cill band and has brackets over a cambered stepped carriage arch with a keystone. The shop fronts are modern. There is a six-panel door with panelled reveals and a decorative ventilation board at Maldwyn House, and a half-glazed door within the carriageway also has panelled reveals. The rear of the building has undergone modern alterations with slate hanging.
