Description

The stables and coach-houses at Pen-y-Lan Hall date from the early 19th century, likely built around the time of the house's enlargement in 1814-1815. Currently used as workshops, the building features a three-bay central section with symmetrical projecting end wings. The exterior is made of colourwashed brickwork topped with a slate roof. It is two storeys high, with the central section showcasing three arched carriage doors, each with segmental arches resting on slightly pronounced abaci. The first floor of each wing has a central oculus and blank windows, although some openings have been blocked. All windows have been modified in the 20th century. At the center of the roof, there is an octagonal timber bellcote dated 1812, topped with an ogee lead roof and a wind vane. The rear of the building features various windows, including one original 12-paned sash window on the upper floor and a 20th-century balcony access.
