Description
This is a bridge over the Montgomeryshire Canal, featuring a lock chamber that extends to the south from the abutments. It is a single span brick arched bridge with keystones, a chamfered sandstone string course, blue brick parapets, and sandstone copings. The parapets curve into returns that end in piers topped with pyramidal sandstone copings. On the east side, just north of the bridge, steps lead down to the towpath and there is a cast iron handle. On the west side, to the north, there is a blue brick projection with sandstone coping that contains the flat arched outflow of the overflow culvert. The lock chamber is made of brick and has sandstone copings. Although it is heavily overgrown, it still has the remains of timber lock gates at the north end, with cast iron-lined rebates for gates at both ends. At the south end, remnants of a cast iron rack and pinion-operated gearing mechanism are visible. The brick-lined overflow culvert is located on the west side of the lock and is separated from the canal to the south by a wide low brick wall.
