Description

This is a former school and teacher's house, dating to the 18th century. It comprises a long east/west range, with a cross-range projecting at each end, and a lower, slate-roofed annexe to the east. The school portion is a single storey, while the teacher's house, forming the east end of the main range, is two storeys high. The building is constructed of local, axe-dressed stonework laid in an informal coursing pattern. The front wall of the teacher's house and the east annexe have been rendered. The roofs are slate, with the exception of a modern toilet range at the rear, inserted between the cross-wings and covered with a low-pitched tile roof. The west wall and the south gable of the west cross-wing are clad in slate. Windows are timber-framed, featuring cast iron casements or fixed lights with quarry glazing, set within openings with cambered heads. The gable windows of the west cross-wing, which served as a schoolroom, have decorative trefoiled timber heads at both the front and rear. The entrance to the former teacher's house is set back to the right.
