Description

Ty'n-y-caeau is a farmhouse with estate-improvement character, featuring irregular old annexes at the rear while presenting a symmetrical façade that can be seen across the fields from the village. The front and sides are finished in slate, while the rear is constructed of brickwork with render; all roofs are slate. The house comprises a main two-storey range flanked by cross-wings at each end, which contain attic rooms with front-facing windows and have chimneys at the rear. The roof has a moderate projection on all sides, with bargeboards on the front and rear gables.

The front elevation includes 12-pane hornless-sash windows in the left gable, both attics, and above the door. The ground and first storey windows on the right gable are wider, tripartite windows, likely in their original openings but fitted with plate glass. A central door is positioned in the narrow gap between the gabled wings, topped by a slate lean-to roof supported by two posts, with four steps leading up to it. The interior of this open porch is painted white. Similar 12-pane sash windows are found above and below on each side.

At the rear, there is a lean-to annexe with a taller gabled wing to its left, which is rendered and painted white, except for the left side of the wing that features two sash windows similar to those at the front of the house. This annexe connects to a set of earlier outbuildings that are also rendered, painted white, and have slate roofs, arranged on a slightly skewed alignment. Loosely attached to the rear is a small semi-timber-framed and brick-panelled shed and granary, which has a slate roof and a rear wall made of slate rubble.
