Description
The North Farm Building, located adjacent to Pennal Chapel, is a 19th-century barn constructed from shaley rubble stone, with some traces of limewash visible beneath its renewed corrugated steel roof. The barn features three bays and faces south, showcasing a wide central entrance with a timber lintel, flanked by two tiers of ventilation slits. To the left, there is a single doorway with a split door, topped by a segmental brick head. The east gable includes three ventilation slits, and below these is an open lean-to timber shed. The rear of the building has a winnowing doorway.
Adjoining the barn at right angles to the left is a shallow-roofed lofted range, which has a cart-bay on the far left; this doorway has been infilled with corrugated iron sheeting and is also topped with a timber lintel. To the right, there are two doorways, both featuring segmental brick heads, leading to a boarded door and a split door, respectively. The loft area has a four-pane window to the left and a boarded loft hatch to the right, both positioned just under the eaves. The barn is supported by simple pegged tie-beam trusses with collars, which can be seen from the exterior.
