Description

The Crown & Anchor Public House is an early 19th-century front added to a 17th-century structure. It is a two-storey building featuring a three-window late Georgian façade with scribed render and a plinth. The roof is made of old slate, with boarded eaves. There is a cement render chimney stack located to the left of the centre and a slate-hung brick stack at the right end. The first floor has flush framed horned 12-pane sash windows, while the ground floor includes a horned tripartite window in a wider opening to the left of the main entrance. To the right, there is a broad 24-pane bar window with end pilasters, a fascia, and a cornice that extends over the doorway, which features a four-panel door. There is also a boarded gate leading to a neighbouring building, which has weatherboarding beneath the window.

To the right of the main structure is a long rubble cross range with projections at either end that run parallel to the main front. The roof is undulating, made of slate and corrugated materials, and includes one 12-pane sash window. The rear displays exposed half-timbering above a through passage.

Inside, the building retains some simply stopped chamfered beams, although it has been largely modernised. There is a deep fireplace with a bread oven aperture in the cellar, which may have originally served as the kitchens.
