Description
Clywedog House is a three-storey building with a five-window facade made of red brick in Flemish bond, which has been colourwashed at No 46. It features a slate roof with a toothed brick eaves cornice and brick chimney stacks. There is a decorative band over the ground floor, along with painted quoins and a plinth at No 46. The original windows include 8 and 16-pane sash windows at No 44, with the central window having brick voussoirs; a white painted section may be hiding a plaque. The ground floor has a cambered coach entry at the center that leads to a rear yard. Nos 44 and 45 have later plain paired shop fronts with ramped fascias; there is a three-light window to the left, a ventilation band to the right, and doorways at both ends. The windows at No 46 are broader, and there is a slightly offset doorway with a modern hotel sign. The right gable end is slate hung. Inside the passage, the brick is whitewashed, featuring a boarded door and blocked openings. The rear of the building is half-timbered, with thinly cut timbers and brick nogging, and there is a later short gabled cross range to the Elephant Hotel made of red brick in English garden wall bond. The windows are mainly horned 4-pane sashes, with two cross frame windows at No 44. There are also modern extensions.
