Description
The sundial, dated 1895 as inscribed on its west side, stands within the churchyard of Christ Church Parish Church. It features a tall, bulbous, baluster pedestal constructed from red sandstone. This pedestal sits upon a square block which, in turn, rests on an octagonal stone plinth. The plinth is inscribed with the words “GLORY:BE:TO:THEE:O:LORD”. The sundial originally featured a lead dial with a gnomon, which has since been lost. The dial was made by Elliot Bros of London and bears an inscription commemorating Frances, the second daughter of Martin and Mary Williams of Bryngwyn. It was placed in memory of her husband, Charles Aldenburg Bendinct, of Indio, Bovey Tracey, who she married on January 20, 1858.
