Description

Llys Maldwyn is a single-storey Tudor Gothic building dating from the 19th century. It features a five-bay front with pebbledash, including a prominent gabled bay at the center, along with a plinth and end pilaster strips. The hipped slate roof has wide overhanging eaves and stone chimney stacks at the rear, complemented by decorative bargeboards, a pendant, and a finial on the central gable. The building has architraves with rosette bosses surrounding 3-light casement windows that have high transoms and small pane Gothic top lights, although the lower glazing bars have been removed.

At the center, there is a pointed arch entrance with chamfered edges and bosses; the keystone rises to a blind panel that once displayed the name Londonderry Cottage Hospital. A recessed modern door retains the original ogee traceried fanlight. The side elevations are finished with scribed render, and there is a 3-light small pane window on the right. The rear features a swept roof dormer and a cross range with a brick chimney stack, which was formerly the operating theatre. A rubble wall encloses the rear courtyard, and a doorway that once led to the mortuary is also present.

In front, there is an iron-railed forecourt with spearhead finials and acorn finials on the principal uprights, along with a similar gate to the right between tall rubble gate piers. The interior of the building has been remodelled.
